Dealing with a missing Title

Heh, good thing I had Miss Agatha done some years back then. Actually sold her to Tony with a Bill of Sale and he worked his magic and sold her back with a title.

If things work out tome wise I'm going down Sunday to look at this BE.

Gameplan at this point is to contact local Auto Service / Towing Company in the area and find out which local lawyer does all of their mechanics liens. Enlist aid of lawyer.

Get all details from present holder of car as to terms and conditions of rental agreement and unpaid bills.

Owner of car is known but lives out of town. Certified letter re unpaid storge bills from present holder of the car. In OH 15 days if not claimed Mechanics Lien can be issued and title granted.

Will need to research as Car has IN plates and is in storage in OH.

I'll need to pay for Mechanics Lien and lawyer to send letter but should not be difficult to accomplish.

Car needs to be out of there by mid to end of July. Details, details, details. Still haven't told the wife, I'll look at car in person first, about an hour away from me. And then make a judgement call on purchasing. More to come.

PS last titled in 1978

PLates shouldn't matter, state of storage is issuing agent. I wouldn't even mention a plate number in the papaerwork.

Got a chance to see the BE Tuesday.

Brought camera but could not take any better pics than I had already got as the BE is wedged in tight and rear tire was too low to pull out of the hanger. Car is indeed really , really rough and very, very dirty. All of the parts and pieces are there inside car like missing turn signal lens found in car, hubcaps found in car, twigs, sticks and debris found in car. Got the bonnet up, all parts and pieces there after a casual inspection. Everything rusty and dirty. Bottom of bonnet really rusty, will need sandblasing and a skim coat to smooth out but no perforation. Inside bonnet brackets all appear to be intact. Small dent in bonnet easily fixable and will need lower rear corner repair kit welded in, no big deal. Much better shape overall than Bugsy's bonnet.

Needs outer sills both sides, I could not verify condition of rear bulkhead. Again could not get doors opened up and seats moved to look and and could not get at from underneath. I do believe will need drivers side floor not sure on PS. All fixable with my drill and welder. Good thing is this BE has been tucked in this hangar for past 10-12 years, sat outside for about a year before that. And likely saw barn storage on dirt floor for 10 - 15 years before that. More will be seen once a full cleanup vacumning and wahing is undertaken.

As far a price, Dick says car is mine if I want it. Car was given verbally to his son and he is doing this as a favor to his son. Neither he nor his son has any interest in the car. He did tell me he would contact the shirt tail relative of the owner and see if he could get a phone number of the owner, Car was last titled in '79 and has not been on road since.

I told him I would contact owner if possible, got to be someone in late 70's or 80's I'm guessing and see if I can talk to him on the basis of:

I'm a Sprite Owner
You used to have a really fun '59 Sprite that you enjoyed/got frustrated with for a long time
Car broke and after a long time, unable to get it repaired, you gave that car away to a relative who expressed interest in restoring
Relative never got around to it, has no interest any more
Car has been sitting in storage for past 15 years and is a rusty "challenge" to restore.
Lots and lots of mechanical challenges as well as cosmetic challenges in restoring

Site where car is presently stored needs it out of storage before end of July or car will be towed to be scrapped out
I'd like to save this one from the crusher and would like to make an offer on the car.
I restored my '68 Sprite that was in a similar state of repair and I am experienced and qualified to bring this one back to life.
I have thoroughy enjoyed the owning Bugsy but always wanted a Bugeye.

Hopefully I can get at least a name and a phone number from the shirt tail relative. More to follow on this saga as things progress. Don't expect to hear anything until next week. Thanks for the interest. Maybe Bugsy II will happen yet.
