Deadlights

That is not a mis-print! Went to start the 'B a few days ago and when I turned the headlight switch the lights came on, but just with a yellow glow. The only thing I had done since the last time I drove with the lights working properly, was to gently wash the car, without spraying it down and with flowing water carefully over the fenders only. Wiped the rest of the car with clean damp, rags. There is just a chance that I got some water in the trunk.

Today the lights came on correctly.

Any ideas as to what happened and where to look?

By the way, I always drive with the headlights on for safety reasons. I installed a reminder buzzer so I wouldn't forget to shut them off at engine shut-down and run the battery down. About three bucks at NAPA.

My first port of call, particularly if you have a Chrome Bumper Car is the bullet connectors behind the grille.

A couple of these are 2 into 2 connectors and the contacts in these are prone to cracking with age. Chrome bumper cars with their more exposed wiring at the front are more prone to this fault showing up but it can happen with any model.

Had this problem in my C one time very early in my ownership and it nearly stranded me and her one night in the middle of nowhere. A very iffy bodge got me home but for a while after that I had to open the bonnet and fiddle with the wiring every time I wanted headlights.

regards

Tom
