Dead fuel pump...?

Got up yesterday, sick as a dog, and started looking for the source of my non-functioning fuel gauge.
After extracting myself from under the dash, where I found no loose connections, I got under the car to have a look see.
At the prospect of having to drop the tank to get to the sender I decided to take a break and get some sorely needed cold medication at the drugstore.
Lowered the car down, hopped in and sped off to said drugtore.
A few hundred yards from home she starts to splutter and stop as if out of gas.
After cranking for a while with no good effect I push my baby home while uttering some PG rated expletives through my coughing fits.
With ignition on the fuel pump does not come on, ( it's a solid state pump that usually sounds like a faucet turned on... )
Disconnect the fuel line at the carbs and get no fuel.
At this point I was too sick (and tired) to continue on and now, the next day I'm heading out the door for work.
Any ideas before I get a new pump...? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

is it getting power?...also be positively sure you have gas,.... ur pump should make noise and be real noisy when pumping air.........zimmmy

Thanks for the reply...got gas.
Pump's not making any noise whatsoever, wish it did.
Will spend some time wiggling wires, wish me luck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

G'luck!

First check. Do you have fuel.

Second. Do you have power at the pump.

Third. Go to O Rileys and get a new pump.

Enjoy

ORiley fuel pumps cheep. 30 bucks at most. Tell em you need one for a 1980 MG.

Or I can go out to garage and check part number which is E8016S manufactured by Airtex and made in the USA.

That would be to Hashimoto O'Reillys, wouldn't it? I think there's one on the Ginza. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hooo, I'll have a beer pls.

...bit early, but I'll make an exception to "test" Hitachino Nest Weizen... Saddle UP!

Well boys, I didn't have to fly to O'Rileys in the end.
Finally had time to spend some quality time with the Midget,
and it was just a bad connection at the fuel pump.
Cleaned up the connector and now have power! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
Thanks for your wise suggestions.

( O'Reileys in Ginza ... no fuel pumps there, Jeff /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif)
