HELP!!??
I'm not the brightest of mechanics, so please bear with me. I replaced the battery in my '66 BJ8, and started it up. She purrs like a kitten, BUT now all my dash witches (except for wipers) don't work, my tach is out. Naturally, I didn't drive it. I have never had this problem before. The negative battery post goes directly into the cut-off switch, and the positive into the cable from the boot wall as before. I'm hoping its a blown fuse, so once I find the fuse box, I'll know...

Thanks for any and all feedback,

Mickey

Mickey, I am moving your post to our Austin Healey forum. This is where all of our Austin Healey owners hang out. The forum that you posted in is called member articles, and as the name suggests it is for posting actual articles that members might write. The types of articles one might find in a magazine, for example. If you are reading this, you are now in the Austin Healey forum.

Mickey,
The fuse block is in the engine compartment, on the firewall on the left hand side. There are two fuses. One fuse is for the horn (Lucas 50 amp) and the other is for everything else (Lucas 35 amp). The fuse rating normally used in the States is different. Fuses with the British rating are available from British Wiring and other suppliers.

You always first suspect a ground interruption with this sort of failure. Try bypassing the wired in ground system by jumping from a grounding point on the dash (or several in succession) directly to battery neg.
Bob

If the fuses are as original, and the 35 amp fuse were blown, the wipers wouldn't work. Everything on the dash is supplied by the 35-amp fuse, so the wiring may not be original.
