datsun fuel problems

My son's datsun 200sx will start and idle fine but as soon as you give it any gas it dies. We changed the fuel filter and bypassed the fuel pump and that made no difference. Any suggestions?

Is a 200sx fuel injection or carb?

If carb - that's where I would start looking for a vacuum leak

As JP said we need more info on the car.

If it has the vg30e engine it is the same as a 300zx non-turbo from 84-89. If this is the case you could go to zcar.com there is a ton of info on there for that car.

Otherwise my 280zx had similar symptoms and it ended up being the AFM(Air flow meter).

Sorry I posted in a hurry while we were working on it last night. It's a 79 with the L20B engine and a carb.

maybe it has two gas line filters? My old datsun pick (82)up had two filters, one near the fuel pump and the other near the carburettor. The auto parts stores didn't list the fuel pump filter in their books.

Did you do anything at all to it before this occurred?
Like, move vacuum lines around?

EGR dumping wide open can do that type of thing.

Accelerator pump arm falling off can cause it to not want to accelerate.

This one should have the small or large window in front part of the flaot bowl.
It the fuel level correct?

Does it drop WAY down when you open the throttle?
If not, ain't the pump or filters.

Unplug the EGR vacuum line and try it.

Also, for grins, unplug the vacuum advance to eliminate any possibility of a broken wire opening inside the distributor when advance is applied .
