Dashpot Damper / DP Oil question

Hey all,

Was looking at my car again tonight investigating my rough running, and randomly checked my dashpot damper. When I took the damper out, I could not see the oil level, and there was no oil dripping off the end. Also, the shaft might be a little bent. Could this account for randomly rough running?
 
Yea it could for sure.
 
BENT??? You've found a real problem!
 
Misspoke- it was not bent. I thought it felt like it had a bend in it but upon further review, it must be my fingers that are bent. I am going to top it off and see if I still have my problem.

if it's running roughly it is unlikely to be the damper, it's function is only to richen the mixture on acceleration. Exactly what problems do you have?

Also, I poked around last night, and noticed that the problem starts within a couple minutes when warming up. After about 5 minutes, it started again, and was barely able to keep running. Fuel Filter was full and flowing, and carb bowl was full. Also, had the timing gun connected, and each plug wire was getting power and firing regularly.

I am wondering if it could be my plugs somehow. I am going to try and pull them tonight.
 
Maybe it's your choke...

Hmmmm... maybe you just need to adjust your idle. When its cold, the choke is uping the idle enough to keep everything smooth. But when it warms up...sputter sputter.

Start with checking the throttle stop set screw. If that has come loose, it would cause the problem I described.
 
Something to look at. I have a manual choke, but I do think that there is something going on at the carb level with these types of settings. I am also going to be checking the diaphragm to see if it is damaged, and I am going to check the float, as well as the idle settings, etc. I have never had to touch the carb AT ALL since I purchased the car in '00, since it had just been professionally rebuilt and tuned, so I think my good run is at an end, and I will need to take a tool to it.
 
If your diaphram is torn, what will happen is your top speed will get slower and slower until you can only go about 15 mph.
