Dash silkscreens?

When refinishing the dash, where are people getting the letters for the Lights.
They look very similar to the size we use on test equipment and test benches we build here at Boeing. These are a rub on then sealed. We also have real silkscreen, but I am afraid running the dash through the shop will raise a few eyebrows these days. Really doesn't look like an aircraft part.

Any other idea's or suggestions?
 
Been a while since they built a Boeing plane from plywood?
What letters?
 
I probably should not do this because it is a way to get it done but as much as I would like I absolutely cannot do it for you right now.

If you can find someone with an old ALPS printer that can print white they will be able to print white letter decals on clear decal material. Just like the decals for model cars.

The decals on here were printed on an ALPS printer.

What is an ALPS printer and why couldn't you print white om a decal from a modern ink-jet printer?
 
Hi Paul,
An ALPS printer holds individual ink ribbons and transfers the ink from the ribbon to the media one color per pass. I have an MD-5000 which can print white, metallic silver, and metallic gold. The ink is waterproof and it can actually print glossy photos on regular paper.
Oh, I finally found out why I was having trouble printing your things.
An ink jet or laser has no white ink. They only appear to print white by not printing when using white paper.
 
I still want to know what the letters are for? Did our dashes actually have lettering?
 
Later GT6's and Spitfires had white lettering. I think this is a '73 Spit dash with lettering for the idiot lights and light switch.

I guess that the original buyers of TR6's needed to know that the big black rocker switch on the left was for the headlights and not an ejector seat button.

Perhaps I missed them, but I couldn't find any locally in both white and a suitable size/font when I was refinishing my Stag dash.
 
tomshobby - Certainly on my '71 there are white letter labels underneath the two warning lights above the steering column.

The ALPS printers are rare and attract huge prices on Ebay: I envy you. Are the media supplies still available? (I know some online forums where you would be inundated with printing requests if you let on you had an ALPS!)

I think that white transfer letters like the ones I pointed to will work quite well, and it's a very cheap option. It's what I intend to use on my dash when I resurface it - unless you want to make a run on your ALPS and sell them for a modest fee?!
 
Hi Julian, the supplies are still available. I actually purchased mine on e-bay a few years ago. If anyone does look for one just be aware that all ALPS printers do not print white. Mine is in like new condition with all options and I think I paid $600 for it, I have no idea what they go for now.

Transfer letters are good except they can be a problem lining them up.

I have some very intense business negotiations going on at this time and may be going on for at least a couple of months. Maybe later I would be available to do some print work.
 
My TR6, '74 had the word: "Lights" in white letters
just underneath the headlight switch.

I photocopied in order to reproduce, but have actually,
so far, ignored the detail.

Thought about transfer letters and figured it would be
easy enough. Haven't pursued. Maybe I'll look at it
now that the car is just about painted. Minor touch-ups
are necessary.

Sorry so long on a reply, but Boeing has me in Paris, France, right now. The Light switch has the word Lights in white letters under the switch. This is on a 1974 or 74 1/2 TR6.
I think thats the only one marked, which I thought odd. Perhaps the others have wore away?
