Dash gauge location

I hadn't noticed until now that my dash gauges don't match the owner's manual locations. The manual is for r.h.d and shows from right ot left top to bottom - fuel, oil, then amps, temp. Is this the correct location for l.h.d TR3 cars as well? Thanks. PeterK

Mine seemed to be in unusual places so I studied this a bit. Was able to find various arrangements on wiring diagrams, factory photos and pics of supposedly totally original cars.

In the end the vast majority of LHD TR3As seemed to have: Oil - upper left, Temp - lower left, Fuel - upper right, Amps - lower right.

Simply due to the location of the hard line to the oil gauge this is almost always upper left. The others are easy to move except for the temp gauge which requires disconnecting at the tstat housing and withdrawing about a mile of capillary tube thru the firewall, around the heater, and thru the hole in the center panel.

I finally bit the bullet and put them right while I had the head off for a couple of weeks.

In case you do want to move a temp gauge, this is the route the cap tube should take:

A related issue if you're messing with the center panel is the location of switches. It's my understanding that panels with the on/off panel light switch had that switch in the uppermost position with the wiper switch below it. Those with a rheostat for the panel lights had that switch in the middle and the wiper switch at the top.

The change point seems uncertain but the reason was that the rheostat on the back of the panel switch was too large for the space available for the top position.
