Be very carefull.

All you out there with TR4s better get them off the road.

They are too valuable.
See Barrett-Jackson Florida auction results:
1963 Lot #312 SOLD ( NEED BIG LETTERS ) FOR $97,200.00
Yes the comma is in the right place.
ENJOY !!!

I sometimes wonder if the people involved with buying & selling at Barrett-Jackson are from another planet! They're definitely not in the 'real world'!

My pleasure. The thing that gets me about this is that there's always one marque of British roadster that goes in a big way. Notice the Healey prices? It's like there's a flavor of the month.

Guess I need to sell a couple of MG's & buy a Triumph! hehehehe

Yep, I'm sitting on a goldmine! Just wish they were running and not in pieces..

Thought it would be interesting to post Keith Martin's, Sports Car Market (The insider's Guide to Collecting, Investing, Values, and Trends). Martin grew up with Alfa's and is no friend of TR...in this very June issue he derides the TR8. Martin is one of the talking heads on the Speed Channel coverage of Barrett-Jackson.
They critique various sales and can be terribly acerbic.
#312-1963 TRIUMPH roadster. S/NCT29652L. Wedgwood Blue/Black leather. Odo: 755 miles. Total body-off, two-year, photo-documented restoration to an excellent result; one of the best I have ever seen. Very good gaps, great paint, and no excuses on the chrome--it's **** near perfect.
Excellent interior. Underhood is as clean as possible, and looks great with the polished Triumphtune valve cover. Not perfect, but a beauty. Cond: 1-.
SOLD AT $97,200. (Comments) No, that's not a misprint. A TR4 sold for within hundreds of 100,000 dollar bill. In case the earth stops spinning and we all fall off, you might want to look at this as a major sign of impending doom. For those of us a little more sanguine about it, this car had major eyeball in an attractive color. Remember, sometimes they sell because they're cute.

Me..they are not actually calling this a trend...but remember these guys can be down right mean.

Well, that goes without saying! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (even if the Barrett-Jackson prices weren't outrageous)

Great looking resto, but the morrors are in the wrong place, plenty of room to put them at the top of the fenders where they belong. I have done several TR4s. Also, but not a critique is the TR4A intake manifold on a TR4,but he may have wanted this as an upgrade. I would have left the dash metal, far fewer of these than Da WOOD.One more comment, then I will shut up,he is going to ruin his nice chrome rear bumper with that short tail pipe.

[/ QUOTE ]This assumes that the buyer might actually DRIVE the car, which somehow I doubt he/she will, given the amount, er, "invested" in it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

This car has no compromises using the best components during restoration and includes a car cover and vintage tool kit to go with the new convertible top. All receipts are included which total $85,000.

I'm sorry ... the only way you could have spent $85 large on restoring a TR was if you started out with one Carb, three bolts and maybe the hood badge... then you bought the rest from Moss or The Roadster Factory. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/square.gif

As far as a car selling at auction for that much... all you need is a good presentation and two buyers with more money than brains.

And one of the two buyers is often a shill....

I'm afraid I'd have to agree /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif

With the major parts availability for almost every LBC these days.... For $85K, I'm pretty sure I could build you almost whatever LBC you wanted as a brand new car with zero miles. The vin and title will say mileage exempt though - so.... Let the orders begin. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The real kicker here, as we all know too well, is essentially all the parts available to totally restore a Triumph are of marginal quality at best. Tis truly sad that someone paid almost a hundred G's for a car that if he were ever to drive it, would depreciate to about 50 thou and in time to about 25 thou. And then he would have to re-restore it, spending almost that much to bring it back up to that 100 thou mark. How maddening.
