Dang tree rats !,

So I've been patiently waiting on my [censored] mushroom log to bear me some 'schrooms. It's been months of occasional checking of the log with no 'schrooms in sight. Finally with all the rain
I get two beautiful 4-6 inch across beauties. Went to harvest this evening to have them with dinner. FREAKIN' tree rats, a.k.a. squirrels, ate some big chunks out of them.
I guess I'll put a wire cage over the log. I'd have felt better if they ate the whole thing. They just chomp some big ol pieces out of each one. Ruined and wasted too.
The wait has been so long I was tempted to trim around the bites and eat the dang things anyway but the wife talked me out of it. She has better sense than me obviously.

Do up several logs...drill holes, implant 'food' & keep 'em moist (& safe from squirrels)

Maybe you could plant a couple of "magic" mushrooms for the lil' rascals.... :jester:

HIGH flyin' squirrels.

Talk about a waste of a good thing!

Checked the log this afternoon and it seems I beat the little varmints to a nice new one. I'll cook that boy with some pan seared ribeyes tonight before the game.

Soooo true! Yet not as tasty as possum.
My family collected the family recipes from past generations and published a cookbook.
My favorite was my Great Great Grandmother's one for cooking possum.
It was a detailed step by step recipe.
1. Catch a possum
2. Pen the possum
3. Feed it corn only for 2 weeks

I just loved how she had those first 3 steps.
The other steps are too graphic for this forum.

Nope, our family cookbook is Cooking with the Harrison Sisters.
I do have the book you show however. Funny as heck.

Boy, the steak and mushrooms were a lot lot better with the Gamecocks victory to night. Knocking off a top 5 team doesn't happen to the po ol Gamecocks very often.
Thing is with the SEC this will not be the ONLY chance to do it this year.

Durn vermin are all over the place here. We have several black walnut trees in the vicinity. they love 'em. I find the stinkin nuts everywhere. The tried to hide one in the LF wheel of the Scion last week. Wife called me sayin' the car was making really bad noi$e$ uh-oh. Well few moments of poking around got that nut outta there and the noise vanished. and kept me from goin nuts! now where did I leave that pellet pistol?

Here's your chance to get a complete meal AND solve your problem.... a win/win if there ever was one!
Instructions Here

Yes, Ben, them little boogers find the durndest places to hide walnuts!

A blip of the throttle and they came flying out to smolder on the driveway.

Gave The Soggy Bottom a pleasant aroma.
