In 1964 my dad bought a 1960 TR3A. It was the car that started the whole automotive addiction for me. He would take me for ice cream after dinner, and I can remember holding the grab bar and looking at all those gauges. My brother drove the TR to college all through the year so it started rusting. Dad had it redone at a fly by night body shop in the early 80's. Around 1986 it was parked needing brakes and a sticking slave cylinder. He urged me to work on it, but I had other interests. In 1996 my dad passed away with cancer. The TR still sat...until 2010 when I decided I was going to go through it and make it road worthy. I replaced or rebuilt all brake componants, fuel, and cooling parts. Blasted the TR4 wires that dad always wanted on it, and painted them and got them new rubber. It has 58,000 miles and runs great. It needs a full restoration and will receive it and once again be white when I'm ready, but for now, I drive it on nice days, and think of my dad - every time I drive it. Here it is when it was almost ready in 2010

I don't think there's a day that passes that I don't wish my dad was still here to help in the workshop. Great memories for us.
 
Scot - that is a great tribute to your dad. Bravo.

He's likely riding along with you, but now he's the one holding on to that grab bar.

Thank you everyone, for all the kind words. Yesterday was not only Easter, but also my birthday, and I felt compelled to post the TR3 story. When it was on the road again, I took my mom for a ride around the lake where she lives for her 91st birthday in the TR. She was grinning ear to ear the whole ride! When I look at all the posts about the TR3 projects on this site, It makes me want to rip the 3 apart! They all look great. I know how long it will take though, and I enjoy driving the 3 on short trips/errands around here in the summer, even if it is not perfect. That is sort of why I started the TR6 I am presently working on. To sort of scratch the itch if you will. I will say, when I was doing the "Roadworthy Restoration" on the 3, it was a dream to work on, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I know when I take on the TR3 restoration I will have many questions for all of you.
