I have a '77 midget I bought unaware that the air pump had been removed. It has a Weber 2 barrel carb instead of the stock SU. I'm ready to get a tag for it but it has to pass testing to do that. Am I SOL or is there a solution? HELP Glenn /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif

erm... I don't know what your requirements are for emissions testing, but you can probably get a lot of the parts (new and used) online through various sources. Various common emissions parts like the smog pump and check valve can probably be found at a local parts store. More car specific items like the air injection rail/manifold and gulp valve will require a little digging. I know for California that certian things like the catalytic converter doesn't have to be a stock unit and a Universal type unit is good enough. If TN only requires exhaust testing, then you might be able to get by with just adding a cat. as long as the carburetor is tuned lean enough. However, if TN checks NOx content you'll more than likely need to have an EGR valve installed and working, and that would require intake and exhaust manifolds that have the appropriate provisions for the extra equipment.

Moss Motors has a descent diagram of some of the parts that you'll need here.

I suppose you could go the route that I've seen other TN residents mention... Classic/Antique plates for the car, but I remember reading that there's milage limitations... which aren't checked from what I've been reading... and then there's the car's age requirements to get such a plate.

Maybe someone in your state will pipe in shortly with some better advice.
