okay, i "thought" i found a great alternative to standard aluminum repair that would have saved me a lot of money on body work on the BN2. The product is HTS-2000 from the site below:

so i got the product demonstration DVD from an aquaintance (its also on the site above) and found 2 "suspect" slight of hand switches in it...

1st: in the very beginning where they lap joint 2 peices of flat bar together with the product and then beat it with a hammer in a vice it looks to me that there is an actual TIG weld on the top that looks like the "stack of nickels laying on each other" charactoristic of said technique. Certianly not the "prodcut puddle" you first see.

2nd: when they drill out threads and use the product to fill it back around a bolt placed in the hole, unless i missed th point of the demo, in the next scene when they remove the bolt to show the new threads, its on a completely different "part".

I just got a call back from someone named al at the Company and he got rather hot about me calling and questioning the inconsistancies in the video.

So am i seeing what i think im seeing, or am i just cynical? <font color="green"> </font>
 
I couldn't tell much from the web site & the video wouldn't run. It appears that it "might" be a form of aluminum brazing. Brazing of "some" aluminum alloys has been done for years. I can't tell if it is brazing or just "glue". From your description of "around the threads" it would appear to be glue.

On the other hand, there are some very good adhesives being used on modern nonstructural auto body seams. "Fusor" has a great line of products.

Nope Dave, it is not glue it is a form of aluminum brazing.I have not used all the products however, in the video where they close the hole in a beer can we do use that material and method to literally Lead aluminum panels.---Fwiw---Keoke

Perhaps this stuff would work for certian types of repairs. I watched the video and was convinced. Certianly the skill of the craftsman and knowing when to use what repair method is paramount. I suppose I would give the stuff a try, then determine what I would use it for.

I think that the product has merits. So you may be cynical if you completly reject the product, but clever if you are sceptical. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I saw a similar product being demonstrated at the Retromobile show and although I dont lknow anything about welding , others watching seemed very impressed. The process was very quick and the result appeared very strong

I go by y_cart on eBay I looked and there is not a bighly on eBay. There are many bighealey email addresses already.

I have Windows Media Player. It simply will not play. Oh well.

I have windows media player but it wouldn't play for me until I used IE. I normally use Mozilla....
This product has been around for years. Every gun show I have been to in the last 15 years has had a table with this product. They are constantly punching holes through soda cans and then " brazing " them back together with these aluminum brazing rods. My son in law has used this product every once in a while in his garage and it does work. I don't know If I would trust it for head repairs but you can repair striped out screw holes , splits and other mild applications. One part of the video makes it look stronger than aluminum. I think that is a little on the optimistic side. But it would work well for the holes , split repairs, and buggered up threads as shown.

I was a diehard mozilla user since I was a beta tester of the original code. Now due to interoperability issues I use IE. You will find that web designers these days write to IE and often do not even bother testing with Netscape. They leave it up to Netscape to do that from their side.

Oh well. My wife still uses Netscape since it can be had in full Japanese including menues help etc ......
