Are good used cylinder head cores getting harder to find? What is a reasonable price to pay for one? Can they be hot tanked and does that affect the guides? I know that the aluminum plug should be changed. What's the average cost of a valve grind?

There are still a bunch around $100 up seems to be the range. Hot tanking will not hurt the guides. As far as costs...a few questions.

Are the valves worn?
Are the guides shot?
Are the seats recessed?
Does it need decking?

Then, if you do need parts...

Stellite valves or straight stainless?
Bronze or iron guides?

If all is good and you just need o touch up the seats, count on about $80. Mine needed everything and ran $400

I would get it because I had a difficult time finding one around here. They do make new ones I think for 2K. The problem I ran into was that most the heads where questionable. I bought one that was shaved so bad that it is a racing or very high compression head. There were others I would ask if I could have the head checked for cracks, and that ended the conversation on Craigslist, I do not know for sure why. But again, I would get a spare if I planned to stay in the hobby
