Custom plates for a bugeye

Just ordered a set of custom license plates for my 1960 Sprite. I was a little surprised that this one was still available. "948CC" has been taken, presumably by another Sprite owner.

In California, you can choose from a number of backgrounds, and the choice determines where the proceeds go. This one is the Arts configuration, and the proceeds go to the California Arts Council. Both my kids are musicians, so I like that arrangement.

Hope this uploads OK. I'm still not completely comfortable with all the options on this super new forum software.

That's great!

Here in KY, If you get historic tags you can display a vintage plate or a replica of a vintage plate. So I'll probably just has a 1958 KY Plate made that says "BUG EYE". When I finally get my sprite on the road.

BUGSY 01 here in OH. That is his nickname hence the plate.

Nice choice! Though my car would be more like 30 HP

You can see mine in my avatar (TUNEBUG). You can use original year plates in Utah, but they have to be original, not reproductions. I might try to track down a set some day, but I like these. Never had personalized plates before, kind of fun, really.

See my avatar, too. I was fortunate that ncbugeye's PO had had the car and the unique plate, for 30 years, and was able and willing to transfer the plate to me.

i'm not typically a vanity plate kinda guy either, but for the little guy i thought, hey, why not.

i went with 59AHBUG. California script at the top...looks pretty good.

This was the first car I've ever owned where I thought a vanity plate would be a neat idea. When I figured out that the name was available, just couldn't resist.

That was pretty much my feeling, too. I'm really not the kind of person who likes to draw attention to himself, but, when you drive a bugeye sprite, it's inevitable. So, the plates.

The last couple times I took the Sprite out, I had people actually stopping me and photographing the car! One guy got out his camera and took pictures as he was driving along beside me. Not the safest thing to do, for sure, but that's the kind of interest these little puppies generate. Another two stopped me in parking lots and pulled out their cameras and took pictures.

So, it just seems like a vanity plate is correct for a bugeye sprite. Just my feeling about it; but there it is.

Since I moved to Fl. I just have "antique" plates, but when I lived in N.J. I opted for the personalized plates and was always talking to people at every light (as I still do here in Fl.!). Since Fl. only requires a rear plate, I took the Jersey plate, bent/folded the top and bottom so you cannot read "Garden State & N.J.", painted them black w/white letters and put them on the front (59 BUG-I)

Here's mine - Go Hokies! Hopefully I'll be able to actually hang it on the car soon.
