Curved vs flat glass - what is the scoop w/ that?

Is there a specific model and year the cut over happened? Let's see who pulls that detail out of their brain and responds first....
 
I believe the change occurred in the TR4 models; early ones had convex, and later ones the flat. Don't know the change point, though.
 
Assuming you are talking about the glass in the gauges, CT11308 was the first TR4 with the flat glass (according to the Moss catalog). The style of the gauges changed as well, it wasn't just the glass.
 
The Nisonger catalog page I have from way back when indicates the change to flat on the TR4 in 6/62.

The domed glass gauges had the entire needle exposed while the flat glass had approximately the lower half of the needle exposed. The domed glass gauge of the early TR4s were identical to the the late 3As and Bs. Good example of Triumph useing up old stock!

Mine, CT5586, has domed glass on the guages.

Not exactly. The first year TR4 had curved glass, but the temperature guage was electric, using a sender, not the type with a bulb/ether. The Speedometer and Tach also have different sized white rings painted on the face and the tach has a red area instead of a red line. Later the guages changed the visibility of the needle.

Subtle differences to the eye, but in the case of the temperature guage, they were definately not old stock.
 
Correct, part numbers for the TR3 include the following according to the Nisonger documentation:

SN 6319/00 3.7-1
SN 6319/02 4.1-1
SN 6319/04 4.1-1 5/56- (Note I found another reference showing
SN 6319/06 3.7-1 5/56- these part numbers for Michelin X tires)

Part numbers for the early TR4 include the following:

SN 6313/09 3.7-1 590x15
SN 6313/11 4.1-1 590x15
SN 6313/15 3.7-1 155x15
SN 6313/13 4.1-1 155x15
SN 6313/19 3.7-1 165x15
SN 6313/17 4.1-1 165x15

BTW, the TR3B still got a mechanical temp gauge, even when the TR4 was getting an electrical one.
