Curse from the price of darkness.

Good morning. I just got this car and Im sorting the elecrical demons. NOT working--running lights, dash lights, hazzards, heater.........WORKING,brake, turn, headlamp hi/low beams, radio, tach, fuel gauge. Fuses look intact.

Although somewhat simple it is the strangest wiring diagram I have ever seen. Any ideas on what the issue might be or where I would start checking for voltage. (79 Midget)

Thanks!, its getting colder and darker around here.

Tony

Don't know the later cars, but in lots of cases (especially with lights) the grounds are often the issue. Make sure those connections are all good and clean. Probably good to go around and clean all of the connections first, then try and chase what is still not working.

Also clean all the fuse holders and contacts before you start trouble shooting.

Thanks for the info. From what I have read so far I believe I will replace the fuseblock w/an aftermarket one and eliminate the AGC fuses. Thanks for info, going to clean all grounds/contacts right now.

I removed the Lucas fuses (cracks around contact caps) I cleaned contacts, installed new AGC fuses, Removed and replaced a few of the crustier plugs going to the fuseblock. Everything works, even dash lights/dimmer. Only the hazzards remain non functional. I will replace the fusebox as soon as I find one similiar to it. THANKS ALL for the advice, Electrical things are not my specialty.

Flasher unit behind console may be out, $3.

I was sitting here thinking that flashers are not that important and I can wait till the book came before I fix it.... then I had some flashbacks of my Fiat 124 and I will fix it right away. I dont see any way behind the console or dash, how do I access this area? I also have to replace a couple bulbs behind tach and temp gauge.

Thanks again!!

Thanks.
Tony

The console is screwed in on the side panels in the footwell, the dash doesn't need to come out.
Do you have a Haynes?

I have ordered a Haynes, in the 2 full walls of auto repair manuals I dont have anything for an MG.

I will be out there in the morning to see if I can remedy the flashers. Then after replacing a few dash light bulbs I can offer the Prince of Darkness the dorsal view of my traffic finger. At least for the time being.

A fuse thought -- do the later Spridgets still use Lucas rated fuses? I made that mistake when I got my first LBC -- the older ones at least used Lucas fuses that look like modern cylinder style (Bussman) fuses, but are not:

Good read on fuses: https://www.drooartz.com/index.php?page=29

May not be relevant, but I'd hate to see your car go up in smoke!

The prince of darkness is already pretty ****, he told me so in a vision of my car reduced to burning embers. I already replaced the fuses according to that chart!, THANKS for the heads up on that link, it was enlightening.
