Crypt Car - help with engine?

A buddy of mine heard about the recent breakdown
events of the Crypt Car and he kindly donated a possible
engine replacement.

As everyone is aware, Tinster knows almost zip about auto
mechanics. A bunch of the triumph guys have been upgrading
their engines with shaved heads, hot cams, triple carbs,
headers, stainless steel hoses, over sized pistons, etc.

I would like to accomplish a few of these things also.
But where do I start? The engine owner admitted he thought
the clutch probably needed replacing.

What's the first item on an engire rebuild agenda?
Is it $$ costly to rebuild a engine? The Mrs saw the
engine and looked dubious.

Hopefully that photo's an example of your dry humor, Dale!

& forget all those 'power' modifications (shaved heads, hot cams, triple carbs, headers, stainless steel hoses, over sized pistons, etc.) Woop-de-do! None of them makes a car any more reliable...actually, they probably make them less reliable.

Just drive it, Dale. Drive it & have fun. Worry about engine mods when (& if) you need to pull your engine.

Oh, I wouldn't even use the engine in the photo as a boat anchor - it'd contaminate your fishing grounds!

Wow! what a find Dale! looks like you could just drop that in and go. I doubt it even needs the clutch.
Bet it get's great mileage too.

Why do you need another spare engine, Dale. You already have a complete spare in your trunk.
 
The fuel economy on that lump will be phenomenal...it won't use a drop...scrap all those fuel filters, you won't need 'em!!! :thumbsup:

I've got bot that baby soaking in Eaze-all to facilitate
removing the cam lobes and crank thingies.
