Crash pad help.

Okay, I know it's supposed to be simple but I'm having a bit of trouble getting my dashtop/crash pad off. The Bentley manual indicates six screws (actually, nuts) that hold it on. However, two of the screws simply turn with the nuts, thus the nuts won't budge.

How might I get these nuts off without destroying the screws/studs? Or, should I go ahead and Dremel tool the screws off and just replace them when the pad comes off? Are the screws easily replaced?

I've got to get this out by Friday evening, please share your wisdom ASAP!

And as always, thanks to you all for the friendly assistance!

Mark, go ahead and Dremel them off. They are stove bolts, with the metal portion of the dash pad cut to accept the square portion under the head. You can easily replace them once the pad is off, providing you are removing the pad from the metal baseplate. You might want to tack them in place with the Mig before you button everything back up.

Sounds good, Jeff. But, are we sure the bolts are readily available (i.e., no pricey shipping from New Zealand/England, late night junkyard searches or cursing/profanity, etc.)?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Mark, my parts list shows those to be 10-32 bolts. If you can't find 10-32 stove bolts, you could use pan head screws, and just weld/braze/silver solder them around the head. Actually, the parts list does not show the bolts separately, as they are part of the dash cap assembly.
I'm sure you'll figure something out. You could always make the two you have to cut 10-24's if you can't find fine thread stove bolts. I'd probably go with the 10-32 screw idea if it were mine.
I got lucky when I did mine, as all of the nuts came off easily.
