When I went to do my valve timing some weeks ago I found that the crankshaft belt pulley hole did not line up correctly when at Top Dead Center. It wasn't even close. But I proceeded on and made the mark on the pulley at the correct spot and then timed the valves. Later I had to replace my push rods and, not being able to re-seat some displaced tappets from above, proceeded to remove the head. This far into the process I decided to go further and remove what was necessary to re-paint the block (it was orange when I bought it). One last thing I considered doing before putting everything back together was setting up the crankshaft pulley in the correct position. Last night I removed the six bolts in the pulley but it did not seem to loosen the pulley so I concluded that more would have to come off first and I should wait until the next time I had the nose off. But this morning I noticed that at some point in the process my new TDC mark had moved a couple of inches (the piston hasn't as I can see it clearly), leading me to believe that perhaps it is possible to turn the pulley far enough to line up the hole in the necessary place.
Before noodling those six bolts out again I wanted to check to see if this is possible at all.
Thanks in advance.
