What is the best way to get this sucker off of a 1275?

What prevents everything from spinning? I only have the head off. Should I have kept it on?
 
Out. I have it sitting on a dolly on the garage floor. Everything is off except this which is preventing me from the last bit of dis-assembly.
 
High pressure impact wrench should spin it free without engine turning...however, if it wants to turn & engine is still in car, put car in 1st or reverse; if engine is out of car, use flywheel wrench & have a buddy hold the flywheel with it so it doesn't turn.
 
Vinnie, if you don't have an impact wrench, which would have it off in two seconds, you can pull the pan and block the crank with a chunk of 2X4. Then get the breaker bar. You will need someone to steady the block to keep it from rolling while you are cursing at it.
Or, you could load it up and take it someplace that has an impact gun and pay them 5 bucks to do it.

If pressure plate is on the flywheel a very large screwdriver to lock the engine works as well.

What is this flywheel wrench you speek of?

Looks like a large screwdriver except it has a "C" hook attached about midway up..one end of the "C" is another screwdriver blade...you put the fixed blade between a couple of teeth & the "C" blade between another....putting pressure against the flywheel wrench in the opposite direction you ant it to turn keeps the flywheel from moving....another reason to visit Sears tomorrow, Jack!

Heh, Sears, the big store is about 20 miles away, all through town. Dislike going to Fort Walton from here, too much trafic. However I will look next I am there.
 
Don't own an impact wrench or a 1 5/16" socket. Good excuse for more tools and a visit to Sears. I think I still have a $50 gift card from Santa. This is a long term hobby so an impact wrench is going to come in handy.
 
If you buy the good (read expensive) 1-5/16" socket from Sears also go by Harbor Freight & buy a cheap one...Sears socket won't go up inside wire hubs...I took my cheap Harbor Freight one & turned the OD down a bit so it slides up inside the hub easily.
 
That's a great tip. Thanks. Gotta read up on impact wrenches to find whats good but won't break the budget.
