My daughter took her Altima into the shop today in Austin, Tx.

she noticed this fine looking MGA in the parking lot.

the mechanic told her MG's were a crappy car!?.

i pointed out to her it is still around at 50+ years old.
and with regular care it will probably make 100.

i asked her to have the guy define "crappy car"

someone from BCF might even recognize it?

I know! I know!

It's the long lost "wish it were mine" MGA!
At last it's been found. Please return to claimant.

(Seriously, I've always really liked that car. Wish I could afford one!)

But, I have been there - was trying to get a part years ago and the owner/mechanic of the warehouse must have ranted for 5 minutes when I told him what I had - and the word he used most often was not MG or Midget - but started with an F. Ironically for all his hate, he sure loved the part judging by what he wanted for it! Needless to say we didn't do business. (Which bring me to another subject - I don't mind people who disagree with me or think differently - but I am so over people who can't keep a civil tongue - and will not do business with such)

Would love to have an "A". One day....one day...

Let's face it LBCs didn't have the best reputation for quality and reliability and that reputation has persisted and passed on to another generation of car guys. However, I think that 99% of them are now in the hands of people who truly understand these cars and know what it takes to keep them on the road. At times last year, my Sprite was the most reliable car of the trio I owned, and the other two were 2012s.

Most people I've come across who don't like LBCs (and they are rare) will simply say that these cars are not their cup of tea. Or the ones that owned them 40+ years ago and have their horror stories. Once you probe the stories, you find that the majority of the horror stories were from people who were not active participants in their car's maintenance.

Only nominally related, but am I the only one that thinks that the Geico lizardmobile looks like an MGA with a bugeye nose grafted on? BTW, making one of those in 1:1 scale might be an interesting project, a real "what's that" at car shows (lizard costume optional).t
