Couple photos I found interesting...

I ran across a couple photos I found interesting and thought others might as well.

The first is of the wood gas generator built onto the back of a car to allow it to run on wood gas created by the combustion of hardwood in the generator's furnace. Without going into the process, the combustion of wood eventually produces a gas that's a mix of CO, CO2, nitrogen, hydrogen and a small amount of methane. The CO2 and nitrogen contribute nothing to the fuel leaving the CO, hydrogen and methane to do the work. Wood-fueled vehicles are still in use in various parts of the world today and have been in development since they became popular during WW II. My father told me stories of using the wood-fueled truck HIS father built to haul coal for the family and for the neighbors who didn't have any way of getting fuel for heat and cooking otherwise.

The other photo explains itself... Carroll Shelby in his first road racing competition car...

Paul - great photos. Wood gas has been around for a *long* time. Here's an Austin Bantam with its own wood gas generator:

Is it just my aviation fascination, or is Shelby sitting on a tarmac, with taxiways (and lights) in the background?

FEMA has plans online to build a basic "Gassifier" or wood-gas generator. I've been meaning to build one, but we'll see if I ever get to it.
Very cool pics.

Depending where you look, they also have plans for death camps and using our corpses for fuel.

I've got some plans printed up and an extra truck but things wood have to get pretty bad for me to build it.
