TR6 Costs in replacing TR6 synchros?

Hi,
I'm considering buying a '70 TR6 w/OD that the seller says is in pretty reasonable mechanical shape overall, except for the synchros that need replacing -- and the OD isn't working.

We're going back and forth by email on this so I've not seen the car, but the seller is an LBC dealer and has a good reputation, so I'm confident in the info I'm getting.

Anyway, not having been into a transmission before, what am I up against with the synchros? I'm reasonably competent with tools and still have the Haynes and Bentley manuals from a previous '6 that I had in the last century, so I'm game to try doing it myself. Are there any special tools needed? Are we talking a weekend job or will it take me a month? How much beer would I need to buy?? ;-)

Thanks,
Rod.

TRod, the synchros are not that much of a problem, but the overdrive in not for the novice if it requires a complete brakedown. It could be a simple as adjusting or replacing the solenoid and cleaning the filters, but you are looking at the luck of the draw on that. Replacement units run from $800 to $1500 for the whole transmission. Wayne
