Stag Cost of a new Stag Clutch [incl parts and labor]

Everyone on the board has been enormously helpful, so I am back again with more questions.

I sold my 1976 TR6 about two months ago. Anyway, I located a '71 Stag that looks pretty good. I am inspecting it on Sunday. The work that definitely needs to be done is the installation of the replacement soft top and soft top frame. I have a price for that installation, somewhere around $350, does that sound high?

In addition, the owner explains to me that the clutch is not functioning properly. Presuming (always dangerous, I know) the clutch is completely shot, what would it cost to replace it altogether?

Other than the fact that the car's color is not original, it looks pretty good. Engine was rebuilt 2,000 miles ago. Plus according the owner everything that could go south has been replaced (suspension components, brakes, radiator, etc.). Price is good. Price of the replacement cost of the clutch could be the determining factor.

Thanks,

Re: Cost of a new Stag Clutch [incl parts and labo

Check around on ebay for the parts. There's a clutch disc on there right now for $19.00 and a slave cylinder for about the same. What color was the car originally? It looks like a nice paintjob in the pix.My boss at work had a new top installed on his SL a couple years ago. He paid around $300 for labor, so that sounds about right. I dunno for the clutch, I'd be doin' it myself... Congrats on the Stag! I'm picking up another one next weekend. It's a POS, but I'm going to put a SBC in it and turn it into a race car. I believe the car I'm getting has all the top bows and the what not, so if you need any parts, lemme know. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm not sure how much to do a clutch, I'd do it myself also. Just hope that someone doesn't do to your car what was done to mine. The center frame crossmember that supports the transmission is welded in! That doesn't sound too bad for top intstallation. I did it myself on my Stag. It isn't really hard, but you can plan on spending pretty much a whole day on it with two people. Before you get the top put on, it would be a good idea to make sure your top bows are working correctly, and not bent anywhere. It is a lot easier to do this before you get the top on.
