Cosmoline, Why Don't We use It?

I remember trying to get this stuff off of military equipment. The stuff will last forever, inside or out! Why don't we use it in the cavities of our cars and forget about a rusting problem for good? Any of you guys that's worked with it in the past knows that it's not the friendliest stuff to get off of something. It's easy to get and now even comes in a spray can.

I have a friend who swears by Cosmoline, he's constantly using it to keep the rust monster at bay. Works great but smells awful!
 
I forgot about the smell!

LPS Rust inhibitor is similar too. Goes on wet, spreads, and leaves a waxy coating. I don't think it lasts as long though.
 
You know, after some have mentioned about the smell, I also now remember it wasn't a very pleasant odor. I agree that It might make a car slightly repulsive, especially on a hot day. :crazy:
