TR6 Correct way to tighten distributor on TR6?

Sorry, I know this is very basic, but I just want to make sure. When I set the distributor, I get it close, and tighten the center clamp bolt. I then do the finer adjustment by tightening the two side bolts. Sound correct? I used to tighten the two side bolts that go into the block and then tighten the clamp. It seems like that way would prohibit the clamp from getting very tight since the clamp is being held in place. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Kevin, I have always left the side bolts tight and worked with the clamp to get the general adjustment right. I haven't checked the manual lately, but I think that is the way you are supposed to do it. It will tighten down adequately with the side bolts tightened down, also the timing could shift slightly when you tighten the side bolts, shouldn't with the clamp. Lastly, many people tighten down the clamp too much and dig into the distributor body, if you can't turn it with some reasonable force applied by hand it is tight enough and won't go anywhere.
