Hello all. Before I drive to look/buy this I thought I would get your opinion if this will work.....Listed as a 1971 MG midget. I want to swap the engine transmission, rear differential, and disk brakes on my '59 bugeye project. Please let me know what you think. Here are the PICS (its the one on the right)
I was going to try and keep everything original, but found out my engine is't the original so I might as well upgrade! Thanks for your help. -Nick

Keep in mind that the motor has been De Smogged. It will not pass Arizona emission standards. Sent you a PM.

I did this with my Bugeye -- pulled a bunch of parts off of a '74 Midget:

If everything looks good on the donor, it's a good way to get all the bits you need. My donor was running (sorta) so I at least knew the engine tuned over and the brakes functioned. As listed in the link above, I wound up grabbing:

* 1275 engine, with ancillaries (alternator, starter, fan, etc.)
* H2 carbs and intake
* Exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe
* Ribcase 4-speed transmission
* 3.9 rear differential
* 2 axle half-shafts
* Front disc brakes and suspension
* Rear drums, including backing plates, hubs, and hand brake assembly
* Radiator supports

In Utah, cars before 1967 don't get smogged, so the Bugeye is exempt. Engine year doesn't matter here either. Your mileage may vary in a different state, though.

Everything will bolt right in.
As for being de-smogged, they run better :wink:
And the car is a Bugeye, they were never smogged. You should be fine.

I forgot to say that he wants $325 for the car, and it's 200 miles away. I don't want to have to travel that far to trailer it, but I haven't found anything this cheap around Phoenix...... Thanks, Nick
