Correct BJ8 seat height?

I bought new seat covers and foam padding for the seat bottoms from Moss Motors. I put them together and installed them in the car. I am 6 feet tall and when I sit on the seat the top of my head is above the windshield by about 1 inch. I sat in my brother-in-law's 100-6 today and the top of my head was 2 inches below the top of the windshield. Is the Moss foam too stiff?

Probably not...
I am 6'2" and my line of sight is right into the top section of the windshield frame. I have to stretch up a little or hunch over a little to see in a straight level line of sight on my BJ8.

I guess it still is. I'm the same height as you and the chrome of the windshield was square in my eye. If you are somewhat adventurous, you can cut holes in the bottom of the seat. I've heard of people using a hole saw, but I think that is pretty messy. I used the narrowest/tallest can of (string beans I believe), cut the top off with a hacksaw (already drained) and used that by hand. I recall making something like 20 holes, a 4x5 grid. The holes were about 2" deep. On the easier side, I think British Car Specialists now sell a softer foam seat.

Here is a picture of me sitting in the passenger seat of my AH on a seat using as received Moss foam. The second picture is a picture from the modified drivers seat that has 25 1" holes drilled into the foam about 2" deep to lower the seating position. I am 6' tall. Is the modified seat showing a normal Austin Healey driving height? If not, how much lower should my head be in relation to the windshield.

Well it seems like you are up in the air a bit.
I think there are at least two sources of bottom cushions that are correct. One is British Car Specialties and another is Healey Surgeons. Some time ago in one of the magazines David Knock presented an article on correcting discrepancies in these seat cushions. You might give him a call and he can tell you the source of his article or advise you how to do it.--Fwiw-Keoke

You might try cutting numerous round holes in the foam. It will allow you to sink an inch or so. When you are talking to Dave, ask him about this. You can reach him at British Car Specialist in Stockton (209 948-8767). Norman is his dad and he wrote an article on it years ago I think. www.BritishCarSpecialist.com
