Convertible top installation on BJ8- hidem strip?

Group,

My wife and I installed the convertible top today. It went pretty well and looks good. I have a question on the hidem strip that covers the front bow staples.

1 Do you usually put any sealant under the hidem strip?
2 Do you staple the hidem Strip and what length? I am having trouble getting my stapler inside the strip.

Thanks

Jerry,
I did not use any adhesive on the strip and I used staples spaced about 1" apart. My staple gun has a very narrow tip that I could fit in the hidem strip. Have a good day!

I found that by spreading the two ridges of the strip open as far as possible I could get the flat surface of a standard Arrow or Swingline stapler right up against the vynl. I ended up by moving one ridge with a finger and the other ridge with the stapler as I pressed down. I used no sealer under the strip. It'll never see any rain if I can avoid it.
Alternatively I've used small brads and a pin punch, which once the brad is started is easier than stapling. Congratulations. Nice fittig tops take patience and a little luck.

Ok, next question. The toggle hooks for the corners of the front bow: Do yours stay in position with a tight pull on the bow? I took mine apart to get new chrome and they relax after a few min so there is no longer tension on the front bow.
