Post-War Other Convertible Italia?

I noticed in a car magazine in the barber shop the other day an ad for a Peter Egan book, and on the cover was what looked to me like a Triumph Italia convertible. Was there such a thing? Is this what I'm seeing, or do my eyes deceive me?

Peter Egan's Book

On further review it appears the grille is a little different. Similar look though.

John:

Peter Egan drove a 1951 Ferrari 340 America Vignale in the Mille Miglia in 1993.

He wrote an article for Road & Track named "The Mille Miglia and the Great Yellow Beast"

I assume that is the car on the cover of his book.

A convertible Italia would be nice though ...

Matt

The car belonged to Gil Nickel, who also owned Far Nienta Winery. He used to frequent vintage races before his passing.

I don't car if it's a Karman Ghia.
I would love that car.

It's a 340 America Vignale Spyder serial number 0140A... says Peter drove it in '95.

BTW, speaking of Italias, does anyone know where I can get a rear tail light for mine??

Hey Art,... Revington TR in the UK remade the Italia and TRS a few years ago. Thats where I'd start.
Good Luck,...Bob

In a sense, there was a "convertible Italia" -- or maybe two! One was the "Zoom" prototype, which along with the "Zest" prototype led to the TR4 production model. The other was the TRS LeMans car of 1960-61. All three share many common styling themes, which is not surprising when you consider that Michelotti was responsible for them!

Oh, and which taillight are you looking for, Art? Seems to me that Italias used at least two different lamps over the course of production.

OH boy, it seems like I opened up a can of worms here! First of all, I don't have an Italia. From all that I have read, the tail lights are supposedly the hardest part to come by, so that's why I asked. I added the devil smiley figuring everyone would know I was just trying to make a funny!

Now I feel like an idiot for adding that after thought to the serial number of the Ferrari.

I'll go hide in shame for awhile.

Edit: Or are you guys pulling my leg!

Taillights are nothing compared to pretty much any other part of the body...or the windshield...of an Italia. I know some folks have gone to *great* expense to replicate windshields. As for body panels, it was pretty much stated from first sale of these cars when new that no body panels would be available for repair/replacement!

But Art, would any of us "pull your leg"? Here? on BCF? Naaaah....

Replicating the windshield for an Italia restoration is how Neil Revington got involved with reproducing "new" Italia's as well as re-creating the TRS's.

Well at least he had the common sense and good taste to choose a proper color for it.
