100_2035.jpgDon't know if it's noticeable in the photo but there is about a 1/4' gap between the bottom of the bakelite part and the aluminum part. It's flush at the top. There is a screeching noise when I turn the wheel. I've taken the grub screws out and want to pull the control head back to see what's going on. To do this I guess I'll have to remove the the nut and olive on the box. Can the olive be reused?? Anyone have any idea what could be binding?

Just take the wires loose, so they can slide into the tube. You should be able to pull the control head away from the wheel without disturbing the stator tube, but the wires have to slide inside the tube.

The original type olive is reusable, it has a split so it will release the tube. But the replacements I've seen don't have the split, which means they usually won't come off without damage.
