is this also the horn?
why are they so damned expensive for the non-adjustable type? Almost $900 from Moss and about the same from Victoria... ufda!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif Hi timbn2, Yep it also includes the horn. They can generally be repaired if inoperative but sometimes are a bugger. There was a new one sold on E-Bay for $240.00. today I know the seller has more of them.---Fwiw---Keoke

I saw that one too, keoke. That was his "buy it now" price, so the seller should be happy to sell more at that price.

Is it possible to buy just the horn button for the trafficator for a BJ8? I got mine out finally but I have no idea if the unit works yet. The horn button just looks bad. Thanks!

John

Ocassionally, I see just a horn button on ebay. I assume that Moss or Vicky British sells them as well. The button really doesn't have a lot to do with the horn operation, though. It's just an appearance item. Having spent an inordinate amount of time playing with my trafficator lately, to the point where I can strip it out and reinstall in about a half hour, I still can't get the darn turn signal to cancel. It's a very frustrating part.

SHG!!, Yes the horn button is a key component for retaining the ground contact and its spring as well as operating the horn. It is not just an ornament and will cost about $30.00.---Keoke

Don't forget that it is not only possible, but very easy to assemble the trafficator parts incorrectly. One result is that it may not cancel. That turned out to be the problem with mine. The way it works is not exactly counter intuitive, but it seems that it is easier to put it together incorrectly if you are trying to do it with no explanations. Just type in "trafficator repair" to Google. You can get to www.acmefluid.com and find a wonderful tour de force of the working of the device. Norman Nock at BCS in Stockton, CA also has a great tech article in a compendium of notes and articles that he sells. The book has saved me lots of time during my BN-2 rebuild, as well as sending me down some paths I probably wouldn't have wandered down (like mounting all five of my new tires using the dinky tire irons that came in the Healey tool kit. Boy howdy, that was fun!).

Keoke, I wasn't saying it didn't do anything, but that if the button wasn't looking beautiful it wouldn't affect the horn. The button itself only holds the metal backplate to complete the horn ground circuit, as I've become very well aware from my many ventures into my trafficator. But most original buttons get those little crack lines through them, which doesn't affect the horn operation, just the appearance of the button.

Roscoe, there have been a number of threads here, including two recently, devoted to the hard work put into that trafficator repair page, with it's great photos. It is a must-read for anyone doing trafficator repairs.

Well OK SHG, I will accept that explanation. But it might depend on which side is full of the cracked lines---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
