Control Box Adjustment

I found and followed the conrol box adjustments in the Haynes, Bentley & Lucas manuals which work with the 2 screws on the back of the unit, but did not see a spec or procedure for adjusting this gap:

It is obviously adjustable so I was expecting to see either a gap or a voltmeter test to get it set right.

It gets set with a feeler gauge, but not the way you might think. The gauge goes between the armature (the part that moves) and the core, then you adjust the contacts to just touch while holding the armature against the gauge & core. If the armature isn't square to the core (with the gauge in place), then you also loosen the screws that locate the armature and scoot it around until it is square.

The process is in the Bentley, but not very clearly.

Here's the procedure from the Lucas manual.

Thanks, that is what I needed.

My manuals only showed the early version control box wherein that gap was mentioned but was not adjustable (other than moving the whole armature). Said it was set at the factory and did not need adjustment unless the unit was disassembled. Guess that was an overly optimistic notion.

Anyway, a simple adjustment (and mine was way off due to the DCO messing with it).
