Reid,
I'm getting ready to have my '67 BJ8 painted in the same tow tone color combination as your car - Healey Blue (Ice Blue Metallic?) over Ivory (?). How do I specify this combination to my body shop painter? Moss gave me the numbers BMC BU2 and ICI 2697/230/M for "Ice Metallic" but I can't seem to make those correlate to anything I can find on the internet. Also, is your side panel Ivory or another shade of White?
Thanks.
Almost everything to do with paint colors is difficult. Mine was painted by Jared, who works for Steve Pike (Marsh Classic Restorations in Australia), at John Wilson's shop in Marcola, Oregon. John has the codes/mixing formulas for the colors he uses. Since most painters have spent a lot of time, money and effort determining their paint mixing formulas, they are seldom anxious to give them away. That's also why almost no two cars have the same Healey Blue (unless they came from the same restorer and were painted at about the same time under similar climatic conditions with similar equipment, etc.).
You could start by taking the codes that Moss gave you to your paint shop of choice and see what they can offer. Get samples. Compare them to other cars whose colors you like. Eventually you'll have to decide when you have the color the way you want it.
