If I was to think "conspiracy"....

https://www.computerworld.com/artic...support--sets--huge--edict-for-jan--2016.html

I do a LOT of google map satellite research. Old road, old railroads, old towns. Used to work for hours. Just after 8 came out, 5 minutes and the computer would start to lock up. And that's on FireFox. So badly, you had to have Process Explorer open before you started...you couldn't even get Task Manager open if you had to kill it.

But......you get IE to open, tools, options, delete temporary internet files, and it would delete for 10 minutes it seemed.

Not nice.

Then I found User Switching Agent for FF. Allows you to select OS and Browser. So, I selected WIN7/32, FF21 (only close choice)......and surprise...I can search for an hour, no problem, check my temporary internet files, delete and half a swipe of the progress bar and it's done.

If I was to think "conspiracy", it would be that google is in cahoots with MS to make sure folks quit using XP.

Now they want to kill off IE8, even though use of it is GROWING 4X faster than IE11. And IE11 has been a kluge from the get-go.

I really need to fire up this box with Ubuntu on it and see how it works.

MS and google are rapidly killing the usability of what I use.....and there has to be some big dollar payout somewhere for doing so.

Microsoft is completely canning IE with Windows 10.

I guess they only want users of 8.1 (which I also detest) to use IE11 (which is dreadful). Don't know why I use either.

Which is why I picked up another box with Ubuntu on it just to play with. Have a spare monitor, keyboard and mouse, just gotta clear a spot.

For me it's the endless/countless lock-ups/freezes/shut-downs with IE11. The more complicated the webpage, the more confused it gets.

I'm probably overlooking something, but why not just use a different browser?

I think I've been ignoring IE for over ten years. First went to FireFox, then to Chrome. No problems since.

I'm just lazy. I intermittently use the others and need to make a clean break.

Look at the link I put in the first post.

I skimmed it but saw no mention of what I was talking about. When I say canning, I mean no more versions of IE, it's a discontinued product. Edge will be Microsoft's new browser.

I went back to IE-8. IE-11 works for a while and then it starts to act up and freeze. I also dumped 8.1 and went back to W-8. It's a shame but one of the best browsers out there and was not well known was Flock! Only browser that I ever found with a media bar with drop down BB code photos. You can still get it but it no longer has support. Probably MS squashed it being such a nice browser. I still have it in my computers as a back up. I don't like anything in my computers that constantly dig into your files for information and constantly pushing ads to sell products. FF is getting that way here lately also. I liked Opera, but not the new up graded version, as it's designed for touch screens, which I don't have and don't want. Actually, Linux is the best way to go and dump MS all together! I have that on my desktop and use the Mint version. PJ
