I have used this for a few years and have been happy with it.
It provides 5 levels of disk wiping and I generally use the 3rd level. It takes some time but is pretty thorough.

Just so you know, if you use this you will have to format your drive and reload the operating software from scratch. You will need a new or full install version. An update version will not work unless you have a new or full version to authenticate it.
 
I dont bother with erase programs, just take the HD out and destroy it, thereby not passing on any info or programs, let the the new owner put in a HD of their choice and progs of their choice, $80?
 
Besides, there are a pair of great magnets inside the hard drives for use in the garage. With end user licenses, you don't want to give anyone your OS anyway, at least the registration number.
 
Those magnets are great!, but careful, they can take the tip of your finger right off..

True that, People just don't understand that a magnet can be that strong. I showed a friend and gave caution. She was completely surprised when they drew blood clamping on her finger.
 
Not familiar with them. Please explain to us novices who know thew outside of a computer well but the inside is completely foreign.

I believe they are. I've bought a couple sets of Neodymium magnets off Ebay. you cannot pull them straight apart from eachother. Here is a link to the most powerful one they have. 6" diameter 2" deep cylinder that can hold over 1100 pounds. They warn that metal objects 5 feet away may fly towards it.

so you were one of those guys whose car would never fall off the track after passing my cheetah with a pitman 196 hand soldered brass chassis because of those mysterious magnets on your pick up's? shoot.
 
Yup, I run the little red Scalextric Mini Cooper. The boxy top heavy car that would roll over at the lowest throttle in a corner. It has taken months to get it set up so it can stay with the rest but with some magnet tweaking, wide silicone tires and other work it finally does. It only has a 15000 rpm motor.
So your chassis makes a lower center of gravity? Your motor must have much more power and 25000 or maybe 30000 rpm?

heck i have no idea. sounds like you still run um. no track here, i was thinking back to 5th grade. 56 now and can't remember lunch from 2 days ago.
the pitman was an old school motor, like an open face fish'n reel.
the hot set up was a cox with a light weight packaged frame. some guys had dad's who helped them dewind or rewind the motors. some dads just liked to beat us kids w/ magnets. my dad thought it was all a waste. i just thought the pitman was cool and liked to make my own stuff. guess that's why i'm drivin a stock tr and not a z.
anyway, to get back to the subject goona smash my hard drive and keep the magnets.
 
We raced last night. Took 4th, 14 guys racing, with my considerably modded mini. It is fun taking that unlikely contender and beating the cars that are more intended for racing. The mini looks so small next to the other cars.
I had a Mustang in 1/24 scale many years ago. Had it set up so it was really quick. I had to make a hinged frame from the rear axle area that could drop down for the slot tab and pickups. Otherwise the car would de-slot because the front end would pick up on acceleration.
 
You dont need to smash it, just take it apart. Should take just a couple of minutes. then take the shiny discs inside and use them for a frisbee at the beach or sumthin...target practice?
