I have a NOS Lucas generator that this correct for a Bugeye and MK II Sprite. I want to use it on a 1966 Sprite. Is there any reason that I can't simple change the commutator bracket with one that is correct for a 1966 Sprite like this one?

Ray, I believe that the field housings are the same. My only concern would be the tail end of the armature length and diameters. I’ve not attempted this swap personally, but I would say it only take a few minuets to check for sure. But, I would say the odds are on your side knowing the British loving to simplify interchange ability.
 
Considering how hard it is to come up with good tach drive generator's I would consider selling that one on flea bay and fitting a common lucas gen.
May make a dollar or two.
