TR2/3/3A Commission Numbers TR3

Doesn't take much knowledge to become impecunious with a TR ... just a Moss catalog will do nicely! Or better yet, take it to the nearest professional classic car restorer and say "Fix it". That will do the job in a hurry!

And don't worry about Don. He's (mostly) harmless.

BTW, lacking the 'O' doesn't necessarily mean it didn't have OD originally. The US dealers were known to pretty much do anything to make a sale, including swap overdrives around and even repaint the cars. But they generally didn't bother to update the factory records.

'Impecunious' I know. 'Mostly harmless' I get. But what is 'JP'?

...From what I've read from TRA the numbers should be within 100 of eachother.

But there will always be exceptions. The gap in numbers on my TR4 (engine, body & commission) is about 7000 -- yet it is original & correct and matchs the Heritage Certificate.

Well, one of the more famous ones was "John Pierpont" ...

The California DMV requires the registration number ( commission number) be located in two places on car. I don't know of a second location, has anyone else had this problem?

You apparently have encountered an overzealous DMV person. I have registered 5TR's in Calif. they all only had the one Commision plate. However two of those had that second STC (year) plate and was included as part of the registration number. One car had to go through a CHP inspection due to a bad number on the title. I do recall the CHIP trying to look for a second number, but I held to my story. THERE IS ONLY ONE--PERIOD.

Seem to remember reading that they can get very uptight if the plate has been removed during a restoration and does not have the original factory rivets.
