Commission Number for 57 100-6

Country flag
Offline
I have a 100-6 that the commission plate has been damaged by PO when he disassembled the car years ago. It still has the body number (3914 502) and I can read some of the stamping on the commission plate, BN4L - and thats it. I tired looking it up in the 100 registry but no luck. Any body have access or can tell me where to go to find the rest of the numbers. Engine is not the original but a two port.

Thanks
Marv

Marv - Interesting body # 3914 502. Could you check the inside of each of the 4 aluminum cockpit molding pieces to confirm the body number of # 502? They should be stamped with that same #.
That would make it a definite early Longbridge BN4

Jim,
One of the door pieces has 502, the two back ones were missing but I had some spares from a wreak. I looked at the production data again today. This caught my attention. The Abington-built cars also had an additional 'allocation' numbers, these were issued from 501 upwards and are also known as 'serial' numbers. My car has the aluminum plate above the commission plate with the number 3194 and 502 stamped to the lower right of same plate. SO I am correct in thinking this car may be the second Longbridge 100 6 made?

Marv - I think, actually you should be looking at an early Longbridge BN4, the Abington cars had a third tag below the commission tag. check p 88 of Clausager's book for a photo.
Did you happen to check the trunk lid and hood for #502?
best of luck

I had a 58 100 6 with the third tag. I know the trunk lid is not correct but I'll check the hood, its creased so I think its correct. Isn't there a number at the front in the lip of the shroud?

The number's on the face of the bonnet latch (facing the motor).

Marv - I have never seen a number at the front in the lip of the shroud, but my Longbridge does have its body # on
1 - the cockpit moldings
2 - the hood hinge
3 - the trunk hinge
4 - the hood latch
But also the body # is supposed to be on the gravel shield, but also I have never seen this, either
Best of Luck
