Should the numbers on the TR6 motor, Trans & the tag on the fender well be the same. The number on the fender well identifies the car as a 69. The number on the engine shows it to be a later model and the transmission somewhere in between.

I guess it is too much to hope that this is normal.

Don't be confused by the term "matching numbers" so often bandied about in the collector car world! That simply means that any and all component numbers listed on a build certificate match those on the components themselves. Often the various numbers can run within several hundred of each other, although there are many valid exceptions. Body numbers can sometimes run LOWER than commission numbers, while engine and other numbers usually run HIGHER than commission numbers.
 
GM's and MOPAR's shared engine #'s and VIN #'s for many years...so a matching numbers Chevy or Dodge does, indeed, have the same #'s for the engine (sometomes the trans, too) and the body.

Few other manufacturers did this....
