OK, this is Rootes related.....

Interesting Commer diesel engine.

Saw this the other day. After Chrysler took over Rootes Group, they discontinued this experimental diesel engine.

I have read that this engine may have been used in the Ecurie Ecosse race transport vans, but not sure about that.

That is pretty neat!! I wonder why Chrysler shelved it??? Comparable power output at half the displacement is nothing to sneeze at!!
 
Maybe it was because of the noise. 2 stroke diesels are very noisy. GMs (Detroit) 71 series engines were 2 stroke. Very good engine, cheaper to repair than other diesels but very noisy. Unique feature about them was they could be made to run in either direction. Right rotation or left rotation. Worked great in duel engine boats. No torque.
