As some of you probably know, I offer web-hosting to members who subscribe here as "Platinum" members. A few of you are now hosting your websites on my servers. Well, recent events at my work place have left me less than secure in my future, so I have decided to get serious about web hosting as a serious business.

I have recently invested in a full featured web-hosting, billing, and accounting package that will make this goal feasible. I will also be able to register and even transfer domain names for members. As soon as I finish getting the system set up and get it fully tested out, I will be posting a notice and link to the hosting system. Any BCF member who hosts a web site (not limited to web sites about cars) will be granted Platinum Member status here on the forum. My pricing will be reasonable but probably not the very cheapest you could find...however, one of the things that some hosting companies do in order to offer what seems like ultra-low hosting prices is they over-sell their servers (just like when airlines over-book their flights).

When I first started BCF I was on a Virtual Private Server that was painfully slow - pages took forever to load, for example. I discovered that one of the reasons for this was that the VPS outfit I was with had badly over-sold their servers so that the resources (bandwidth, CPU and memory) were always maxing out. I will not oversell my servers. If a server's memory or CPU usage starts to get overloaded I will add resources as necessary.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know what I was planning in case you have been thinking about starting your own web site, or if you have one but would like to move. My hosting of web sites started as side thing just to help offset the cost of running this forum, but with things that have happened recently at my work, I'm hoping to make this a modest income generator as a hedge against the unknown.

If you think you may be interested, PM me.

Let me add an unsolicited endorsement for the hosting at BCF.

Here's my good wishes for lots of hosting business at the same time things get more settled and secure at your day job!

I too must say that hosting here at BCF is so good that I also moved the web site for a small chorus in which I sing and serve as webmaster. The move was seamless, and we are saving a lot from what we originally paid locally...

And Basil has been a great 'tech advisor' to help me through my processes of getting the both of my sites here going smoothly.
