I have finally finished color sanding. 1,000; 1,200; 1,500; 2,000; 2,500; and 3,000 grit. About half done with first stage buffing. Very happy with the result so far. Finish buffing, some cleanup, and begin putting it back together. Maybe be able to go for a drive next spring.

That's looking really nice.

It's going to look fantastic, but cleaning up all the compound splatter is going to be a real chore. I never went beyond 2000 grit. I tested it and found that at that point a good fine compound would remove any scratches left from the sanding. I always machine buff using Meguiars No. 9 fine cut polish followed up with their swirl remover on a foam pad. Use a different pad for different compounds. That was my system on solid single stage colors. Clear coat may be different.
