color of hot wires, more current draw questions-BJ

on a BJ-7 what is the color code for the main hot wire to the headlights? I wish to install an inline fuse for them close to the first light on the circuit.

What is the amperage of the heater motor?

If I was to wire the light circuit red wire at the switch what would be the size of this fuse?

What is the amperage of the wiper motor? In the manual it shows normal to be 3amp, stall hot? 8Amp, stall cold? 14amp. What do stall hot & cold mean?

What is the amperage of the fuel pump

In the Bentley manual it shows the panel lights to be 2 2. What does this double 2 stand for?

Thank you much for any assistance.

The panel lights are 2.2 watts (they must have forgotten the period).
I used a 5 amp fuse for the red wire circuit.

Well, if you fuse close to the headlight you'll need two fuses. One each for the blue/white and blue/red wires (high and low beam). I think that is overkill and I'd just put it either on the brown wire leading to the light switch or the blue wire after the switch.

5

As far as the wiper, heater and fuel pump, I'd need to get an ohm meter out. Apparently, I deviated from my original drawing since the wires don't match on my fuse block.

Are you making all these additions as in-lines?

Add a 15 Amp fuse in the blue wire leading to the switch. Yhis does mot protect the switch from switching failures only short circuit on the supply lines.

Use the Blue wire solution shown above

What is the amperage of the wiper motor? In the manual it shows normal to be 3amp,
This is its normal running current.

Stall defines the initial start current of the motor after being energised;
1] when the motor has not been running "Cold" and the other when it has "Hot"

Re: color of hot wires, more current draw question

thank you all for the answers to my questions-

Gregw yes I am making these connections in line and running the wires back to a fuse block and then back to the wire at the splice.

Keoke- so, do I apply a wiper motor fuse sized to the maximum draw (14amp)?

Still need to know what the amperage of the fuel pump is.

Re: color of hot wires, more current draw question

No tha Wiper motor is unique it will take a 20 AMP slow Blow fuse

Oh On the guel pump start with a 10 amp slow blow carry spares if ok go to a 7.5 AMP.

Re: color of hot wires, more current draw question

My wiper motor stalled (jammed) and burned out the tail lights before it blew the 35 amp (U.K.) fuse. I recommend you take Keoke's advice.

Hi Robert,
Where are you mounting the new fuse block? Personally, I'd tap into the blue wire at the firewall where it goes to the high beam switch, instead of adding all that wire for two runs up to the headlights. If you do an inline fuse, put it on the brown wire before the light switch. Just add up the watts for the lights (high beam, running, brakes and dash) divide by 12 to get your amps. Then round that number up to the next convenient fuse number.
