I am a month away from paint,,,after a few years of resto. Our car is a 1961 3000 BT7. Our plan is to paint it black over white. Which my research says is correct for that year. However I keep finding different names for the WHITE incert. Suggestions?
Is it old English White. ? That is the paint code I have.

Interior black with Bright white pipeing or is it more ivory?

I would say it would be wt3 old english white and the piping would be an ivory. That is what how my 62 that was actually built around march 61 came new. Ours has the red interior but I chose to do the piping in red also.
I think black over the Old English will look great.

I was just told that in 1961 the cars were not produces Black over white. What is my best resource?

I will venture to say that at least 95% of all Big Healeys where shipped in ONE solid colour. DEALERS did coves at their choosing. Therefore, a Black car with OEW coves would be fine. There is only ONE way that I can think of that would make it WRONG is that if your BMIHT
says so!! :hammer:

Also, you would know what Original piping was from same Cert.! It would, most likely be Ivory.

black BK.1
ivory white WT.3 (also known as old english white)
Clorado Red RD.2
Healey Blue BU.2 These paint numbers are BMC code
Florida Green GN.1
Pacific Green GN.9
Primrose Yellow YL.3

Duotones upper/lower are

Ivory / Black
Colorado Red / Black
Black / Colorado Red
Healey Blue / ivory White
Florida Green/Ivory White
Pacific Green /Ivory White
Pacific Green /Florida Green
Primrose yellow / Black
Pick a combo you like and I'll send you the options for upolstery and trim, seat piping color, carpet color,Hood and tonneau color and hard top color that coresponds with the paint options.
Hope you find a color or combo you like.
I am going solid Old english white like it came from the factory. I like some of the duo colors but I don't really like white over black that much and white over red was not an option and I am not sure I like that anyway. I do like the black over red but I am not a big fan of the orange look of the colorado red paint. I am commited to old english white at this point since I have allready painted the chassis and have the body back on and the engine and all the suspension parts back in place. Plus my car came with 5 or 6 complete red hides for the interior so I will be going with the red interior. Actually I have the seats done and the red's really sharp looking with the old english white.
If you do decide to paint your car black over ivory I don't think that it woud hurt the value any. I think it would look good. I asked Bill Bolton about my car,if i were to paint the coves red and he said it wouldn't hurt the value. Actually Bill has a Ivory bn7 with red coves.

If you look at Roger Los www.austinhealey.com website under the big healey catalog you can see the factory offerings with the various interiors. It's a great way to see the various combinations on the vehicle. I can't vouch for the accuracy (though it looks very well researched), but the site shows black over ivory white shown as an option for the 61 3000 and it has a red or gray interior shown. There was a black over white healey (100-6 I think?) in a full page spread in one of the club magazines a little while back and it looked beautiful.

That is where I got the original idea of going Black over ivory, now I am now sure it is accurate. I am committed to Black, will have to decide on the lower color or all black soon.

Where can I find a link or info on getting the production info on my car. A Heritage certificate?? Date of production, color etc. Is that the BMIHT refered to above?
