Oh my god, that is UNBELIEVABLE!
 
Ooops... I thought that was odd, but I heard "Clark County" and made the wrong connection (and that if it had been in Clark Country, WA, I would have heard about it). Whew. ;-)

Unbelievable that the officers didn't think it odd that the couple was older and she with crutches.

Personal opinion...held it for years....the cops are.....well....any outfit that has the "authority" to use deadly force, and polices themselves (officer acted within department guidelines) is not to be trusted.
Had the county AND state just lose a second big case where they burst into a guy's house while he was asleep and put sixteen slugs into...the wrong guy.
Or, they arrest you (retired Metro bus driver of colour) taking his afternoon walk using his favourite golf club as a cane for "carrying a deadly weapon"...and nobody caught it until it went to court, and OMG.
Why do you think the US Justice Department has weighed in?
And them basta..oops...officers have the unmitigated gall to call ME a civilian, when the closest they ever got to the military is quasi-military at best?
I hope the lawyers take the operating budget for those departments in Nevada for several YEARS with this one.

Why? They'll just write more tickets.

The problem is, and a lawyer will tell you, it's the judicial system, NOT the justice system. All parties involved(from top to bottom) are working off of a score card.`All of these folks are paid for results, factor in ego and it's a recipe for disaster. One of the main reasons I still live where I do is local LE and the judges are actually good fair people. If anything they are too lenient. It's difficult to get them to actually arrest people.
 
There's no reason, legally or humanely for cops to act like that! An elderly couple should never have been treated that way. Seems like those cops need a good reprimand. But we must remember, cops are never wrong! Just ask one. Funny though just how many innocent people have been released from prison since DNA became known and the felons are still running free. I support all police departments, but there is no excusing what happened to that couple! Yes, disgusting! :concern: PJ

I wouldn't go as far as to call them elderly. I'd like to remind folks that we do have some LEO's here as dear and trusted friends. There are good and bad apples. :wink:
 
Depends on who has the definition. 55 can be considered "senior"...and possibly "elderly". Retired? On their retirement trip to Nevada in their classic car? At least 62? Wait until you're 62.
Somebody who needs prescriptions administered at specific times. Jail time for all involved on the badge end for denying such.
Operating budget: No paychecks, no fuel, no nothing....can't very well be out writing tickets if they can't put gas in the cruiser.
 
Frankly, that guy is lucky to not getting shot (these days). A Hispanic unarmed nut in eastern Washington was throwing rocks at cars and was shot 7 times by police (twice in the back)... about a week or two ago (in the Tri-cities).
It's a tough job, but surely some these shooting are completely unnecessary. I agree with TOC... the state of Nevada is going to pay for this one (and should).

Or the King County zero who broadsided a "suspect" (who it ended up wasn't) with a tackle against a wall. Permanent brain damage, as in vegetable. "Acted within department guidelines". Was it South Carolina where a trooper stopped a guy....who as directed got out of the car, and picked up his cane..and was shot twice...and survived...because the trooper was 'afraid". How long would it take to wait and see if it's a cane or a long gun...and how much time does it take to bring a long gun up and pointed. Still on the job....making old folk's lives safer.
 
I've not been pulled over much in my life, but I remember being stopped for speeding (this in about 2004)... and as I quietly waited with my hands on the steering wheel, this very young cop comes up from behind me along side my car and is oddly positioned. At that point I turn around with my window open, now looking backward and asked him "do you actually have your hand on a gun?" He did! I was floored... for speeding? I guess people do crazy things, but I'd never seen such a response.

Nowadays, I think you don't DARE show any signs of resistance or movement toward (or away) from someone holding their service weapon. And it doesn't seem to matter if you appear elderly or not.
 
Agreed... enough said. Didn't mean it to turn political as such. But it's given me pause to look at my collector car registration. :rolleye: I do drive with no front plate (because there isn't any place for it) but I've never had any difficulties.
