Coffee Table

I want to build a coffee table out of an engine block, pistons, a head & thick piece of glass - I want it to look like a complete engine but use pistons to hold the glass.....anybody got ideas?

Just park Brosky's car in your living room....the engine is clean enough to eat off it.... :jester:

A coffee table would seem to dictate the engine laying on it's side, exhaust side down. Pistons could be the legs at the corners of the glass top, tops supporting the glass. The con rods could be the legs, leaving off the caps to get the "feet". Food for thought.

That would depend on the type of engine. I'm guessing you weren't thinking of a V8?

No, probably a gutted Midget engine - it's for the gameroom I'm building over the garage.

Tony;

Google engine coffee tables.
Lots of examples and one in particular "Truckblog-racechairs.com"

Might get some ideas from there.

I know you have probably seen this here before. I love this idea, but I can't quite get past how much this would weigh.

Fear not Terri! the added weight of the coffee table is far outdone by the reduction in weight of your wallet!!!
Now how could I get a toasted Ferrari mill for cheap? That's awesome!

no corners for the kids to hit.....

As radial prices go, I think around 12,000 bucks is a little steep for a coffee table.

Tony - how 'bout a Mercedes V12 table/wine cooler?

Thanks for the compliment Bill, but you know full well that my car would look silly in his living room with the blue cover on it. Maybe something in a soft earth tone would suit the decor a bit better.

So, I take it that you're single Tony? Or planning to be soon?

Tony, I sure hope you have given thought of the whole decor thing.... you will also have to consider replacing the couch with bench seats if you want it to really work with the new coffee table

I'd stay away from a British engine, it'll just leak oil on the carpet.

Tony,
Here's an idea for a whole room decor....
I particularly love the hubcap clock on the wall and the end tables made from a steering wheel. You probably have all of this around to complete this decor...

Scrap yard or living room?

Terri - I'd thought of most of those things but Jerri nixed them all...she finally gave in on the coffee table because she dosn't think I'll ever actually do it.

If you watch "Top Gear" they have a Jag V12 coffee table. The block is aluminium, and broken V12s should be free. I have a parts engine here, and when it is finally stripped, that is going to be its' fate.
