cockpit/underbody paint

Hey guys, I'm new to the site, just picked up a 63 sprite that I'm starting the process of restoring to a good driver condition. Will be cutting out the rotted floor pans soon, and installing repops (thanks to several threads I was able to dredge up for info on fitment).

My question is, once I finish the metal work, go over the old stuff with a wire wheel, and shoot it with epoxy primer, what do you guys finish the interior and underbody with? Body color for the whole interior, even though it's mostly covered with carpet? Maybe a textured undercoating over the whole bottom and wheel wells?

All is supose to be body color.

However, that said, I think for a driver I would use truck bed liner in a close color.

I have used Por 15 on all panels that don't show and that I want to protect with a strong coating. It has worked well or me on previous cars. It is almost indestructable. Jim

thanks for the tips. does por-15 adhere properly to a newly primered surface, or does it prefer to be applied over bare metal? I've only ever used it on rusty dollies and other stuff that's grimy with surface rust

I usually apply it to bare or weathered metal. Before it dries completely and is still a bit sticky, you can dust it with primer if you want to put a top coat of some type of paint on top of it. For floorboards and such, I usually just put on the Por15 by itself. It dries rock-hard and seems to last forever on the cars I have used it on. On a surface that already has primer on it, i would still think that Por15 could still be applied to provide a rust-preventive layer. I sound like a commercial. Jim

haha everybody who uses por-15 on their car ends up sounding like a commercial... i guess that's a good sign! i'll post some pics when it's done to let you all know how it turns out. thanks!
