TR2/3/3A Cockpit quarter rails?

From my memory they were made of:
Front: Aluminium
Top of doors: steel
behind elbow: steel
rear quarter: Aluminium
rear long one: áluminium

Regards,Johannes

Mine is the same as Johannes'. Having the rear caps in aluminum allow them to be easily shaped (and mis-shaped I suppose) to fit well.

Which ones are called 'quarter rails'?

The situation the Johannes describes is the second version. Initially everything was aluminum and the dog leg piece fit over the interior dog leg panel and the doors did not have the chrome buttons on them.

I agree...my TR2 was all aluminum caps. My TR3A used the steel on the doors and quarters.

I have a question about the covering on the rear quarters on my 59 TR3A which are aluminum . Should they covered in leather or vinyl ?

On my 59 the dash rail, door toppers and dog leg are all covered in leather and the 3 pieces around the rear are covered in vinyl. I have redone them this way but I think that is as original.

Mine too, positively original. Tom

Take a look at the interior shots of this supposedly all-original car with the rare Targo Purple interior. So typically, the Vynide has faded to a sort of grey-blue, so it's quite easy to tell what was originally leather and what was originally Vynide!

Yes, Andy, good observation. You also can see clearly that the leather seats had leather on the tops of the cushions and the front of the seat backs only. The rest of the seat cover was vinyl (Vynide).
That is quite an interesting car, by the way.

Thanks folks for answering my question on the covering of the rear quarters being covered in vinyl and thanks to Andrew Mace for posting the great pictures of the original 1960 TR which will help me on installing my interior over the winter months. This forum is a great help !

FWIW, the (partial) leather was optional. Base model was all vinyl.
